Nemo by Blu3 battery-powered tankless dive system for underwater cleanups and a scuba alternative

We met marine educator, conservationist and activist Jacqui Younger at Blairgowrie Yacht Squadron to try out the Nemo by Blu3, a battery-powered tankless dive system, for underwater cleanups of the pier.

Jacqui Younger is an education office at Dolphin Research as well as involved in all sorts of projects to do with the local coastal environment.

The Nemo Blu3. It is a middle ground between snorkelling and scuba diving.

The system is a battery powered dive compressor that floats on the surface and delivers an air supply to a maximum of 3m underwater. It allows the user to remain submerged for up to an hour or more on a single charge (which takes about 3 hours).

Jacqui uses the system so she can complete a more thorough clean of fishing gear wrapped around the kelp and sponges at piers in Melbourne's  Port Phillip Bay.
