How is this tour different?

No visit to Flores-Sumba would be complete without a chance to experience its unique culture and wildlife, from the awesome Komodo Dragon to the subtle ‘tenun ikat’ tapestries, the lush cool highlands and stunning beaches. All our tours are with small groups, as this is the best way to maximise the chance of seeing birds. During the tour, you’ll stay in a range of accommodation from lushly-gardened hotels to homestays; you’ll enjoy the best local hidden eateries and visit places well off the beaten track for tourists.

The island of Flores is almost tourist-free and this has proved a challenge to birders trying to reach the area in the past. It lies in the Lesser Sunda islands which are east of the Wallace line and are more arid than many other parts of Indonesia. They have a number of sought-after endemic species. This tour visits Komodo, Flores and Sumba, which together support all the local island endemics and a variety of species endemic to the Lesser Sundas as a whole. This exciting tour gives you the chance to travel accompanied by local bird guides to remote areas as well as experiencing some of the other wildlife (e.g. Komodo Dragons) and culture of this fascinating area ... which is also very accessible from Australia.
