Lisa & Jimmy of Triton Bay
Triton Bay Divers is a partnership between the founders and the Kamakaula family, who are the owners of much of the land around the island of Aiduma and who have lived on these lands for generations.
In this video you meet co-founder Lisa English.
Lisa founded Triton Bay with Jimmy Thai (pictured).
Lisa and her associates knew that long term success meant having the local community involved so they became partners. This way, their interests are aligned. As Triton Bay is too good a diving destination to only be accessible by liveaboard, it was only a matter of time before a resort was built. Once complete, Triton Bay Divers will be the first in the region.
Lisa is acutely aware of the issues facing the planet, in particular the threat of man-made climate change and the impact of ocean acidification and rising water temperatures on coral reefs. Staff and visitors are especially sensitive to this and see first hand that economic development often comes at the expense of the ecosystem. The purpose then, together with their Papuan partners, is to promote eco-tourism as a means for sustainable development for the local community, to educate and spread awareness of the issues facing the planet, to share with the world a little corner of paradise, and to preserve it for future generations.
