Back on land, you’ll relax at the very spot that inspired acclaimed author Margaret Atwood’s novel ’Oryx and Crake’. Enjoy the hospitality at a world famous rainforest lodge where Cassowaries and birds of paradise make their home and experience the Atherton Tablelands exquisite wildlife with expert guides.

  • Swim with Minke Whales on their terms
  • Stay in the famous Cassowary House
  • Explore the Tableland’s iconic wildlife with an expert guide

Day 1 You’ll board the vessel in Port Douglas and meet the Minke Whale Swim crew for a 9:00 PM departure and steam overnight to our first destination.

Day 2 A light breakfast will be served as you wake up to the Ribbon Reefs stretching out before you take your first dive or snorkel followed by a hot cooked meal. In the evening you’ll be entertained by the researchers who’ll teach you about the whales and the history behind the Minke Whale Project.

Day 3-4 Today you’ll help us look for whales (though often they find you), explore the northern Ribbon Reefs and visit famous sites including the Cod Hole, Pixie Pinnacle and Steve’s Bommie. During encounters you’ll help the researchers identify individual whales and key behaviours - be sure to keep an ear out for the Minke’s unique acoustic repertoire.

Day 5 Another chance to enjoy a swim with the Minkes in the morning before steaming south back towards Port Douglas.

Day 6 Disembark at 10am for pickup and transfer to your accommodation in Kuranda for a leisurely and relaxing day in the Atherton Tablelands.

Day 7-10 These four days you'll stay at Cassowary House, a famous rainforest lodge just outside Cairns, where you’ll have chance to see much of the Tableland’s iconic rainforest wildlife. You’ll visit the Butterfly Sanctuary, BatReach, Venom Zoo and markets at Kuranda, stop at Davies Creek for a dip in the beautiful pools and Granite Gorge to see the cute Mareeba Rock Wallabies. Your guide will take you to mid-altitude sites including Lake Barrine, the Curtain Fig and Hasties Swamp, and high-altitude sites like Mt Hypipamee and Wondecla. You'll even take a boat safari on the Daintree River.

Spend a fascinating night spotlighting for Tree Kangaroos while at lunch dine with Platypus beside a secret billabong. Each morning, you’ll be treated to Sue Gregory’s famous breakfasts on the verandah at her renowned rainforest lodge Cassowary House. Depart from Cairns.
